PS5 officially launched in October of 2020, more than a year after the launch of Ryzen 5 3600. The CPU of PS5 built on Zen 2 processor architecture comes with an 8 processor core.

The processor runs on a 3.5 GHz variable frequency. Meaning, they change the frequency while keeping the power consumption same at all times.

It provides the PS5 an efficient cooling system and much better performance. The GPU can run on 2.23 GHz frequency which is quite high. Moreover, as it runs RDNA2 GPU architecture, it enables reflection, Ray Tracing, and all the good stuff in your gaming experience.

Additionally, you get a 16 GB GDDR6 memory with a consistent memory bandwidth of 448 GBPS. However, the best feature of PS5 is probably the 825 GB SSD, which is outstandingly fast! This gives the fastest loading time of load screens as you’re going on in your game world.

Ryzen 5 3600 vs PS5: The Detailed Comparison

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and PS5 cannot be compared one-on-one. However, we can look at the specification in a crude sense to get the idea. Below is a table that compares Ryzen 5 3600 vs. PS5.

Characterization Ryzen 5 3600 PS5
CPU AMD 6 cores; 12 threads; efficient 65W TDP; 3.6GHz Base Clock; 4.2GHz Max Boost Clock. AMD Zen 2-based CPU; 8 cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
Memory Cache: L2- 3MB, L3- 32MB; 3200MHz 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit

Custom 825GB SSD.

Refresh Rate   103.2 FPS (1440p)

73.2 FPS (4K)

60 fps but can support 120 fps too even at 4K.
GPU For Gaming, 2060, 3060 or 3060 Ti are all compatible. Custom RDNA 2 GPU; 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
Graphics Card Support RTX 2060, RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti (best for gaming). Uses an APU, therefore Graphic settings cannot be altered by choice of customers. Has an SSD with 500GB WD PCIe 4.0.
Motherboard Any B450 motherboard goes nicely. In-built and from Foxconn.

The Ryzen is suitable for any new gaming as all games are compatible with 6 core processor. It was built with Zen 2 chiplet architecture from AMD. The 3.6 GHz to 4.2GHz speed can run any game smoothly.

You can build a monster gaming PC with graphic cards of any sort you want. The PCIe 4.0 standard chips do not hold back on your gaming experience. You can start with RTX 2060 graphic cards and go up to 3060 Ti.

PS5 and Ryzen 5 3600 have AMD in common as well as Zen 2 cores. But since the PS5 has an 8 core processor chip with hyperthreading, making it equivalent to 16 cores. This runs with a variable frequency of 3.6 GHz. Which supports amazing graphic experience.

The RDNA2 GPU with 36 CU runs at 2.23 GHz and shares memory with the CPU.

Ryzen 5 3600 has 32 GB L3 cache memory. This is definitely way more than previous versions. Such huge cache memory may as well affect regular applications.

However, the system memory can support 3200 MHz data memory which should help the gaming too.

If it comes to memory specification, there is a lot to talk about the specs of PS5. It comes with its own customized RDNA core with a memory of 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit. Custom 825GB SSD is also used. The high capacity of memory storage is a benefit to gaming.

The console can then store games faster than before.

Refresh Rate:

Refresh rate or frames per second is the number of times a display device shows images. More the rate, the faster the refresh rate.

In the case of Ryzen 5 3600, playing at the resolution of1440p, the refresh rate is 103 approximately. This means 103 frames per second is changed. Similarly, for 4K resolution, the refresh rate is 73.2 fps.

In this case, PS5 has much more range. It can exceed a whopping 120 fps refresh rate, irrespective of 1440p or 4K. However, the refresh rate starts from 60 fps.

The faster refresh rate enhances the smoothness of the game. That is, loading time reduces. Giving a more realistic approach to the game.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 can support any graphics card starting from RTX 2070 up to RTX 3070 Ti. It comes with a cooling unit. Many high-end products do not come with such cooling units. This enhances the allowance of using graphic units.

PS5 comes with its own customized GPU. Additionally, there’s the SSD with faster memory for a smoother gaming experience. The GPU comes with a real-time total potential power of 9.2. It allows overall smooth, more definition of the depths of color and faster speed of gaming performance.

However, the PS5 does not yet have any upgrade modules. But its mind-blowing features compensate for that already.

The Verdict: Which One You Should Go For?

Gaming consoles and Gaming PCs can never be the same. But with the new technology of consoles, that difference is becoming meager. So, which one is best for you depends entirely on your need and budget?

In my opinion, PS5 is a one-step advanced boost for gaming experience than the Ryzen 5 3600.

Not only the technology is advanced, but it shows in the performance as well. PS5 provides a smoother and faster gaming experience. It is supposed to reduce any lag time due to the unprecedented memory it owns.

But this also holds true for Ryzen. Response generating time is reduced. However, the RAM, GPU, and motherboard you use to build the PC will have a lot of effect on your gaming whereas you can get the entire gaming package from PS5.

PS5 is also comparatively cheaper as a gaming console that will be quite popular for the next few years. If you have a budget and you cannot think of anything other than gaming, then go for it. However, you cannot gear it up as it does not support external drives yet.

Both will be worth your bucks!

Game Suggestion for Ryzen 5 3600

The above games come with less lag time, faster load time, smooth running, a great definition of shadow and light, and an overall aesthetic virtual experience.

Game Suggestion for PS5

These graphical and virtual achievements of these games will knock you out of the park. The Ray tracing option, reflections, smoothness (especially of its theme game ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ adds to the simulation of the controller that provides more real simulation now.

Consoles are more optimized for gaming as the GPU and CPU run the same games all the time.  This is obviously not the case for gaming PCs.

I would say, at 1440p Ryzen 5 3600 is like similar to Ryzen’s above. A PS5 is suspected to be in quite the level of Ryzen 7 3700X, and an RTX 2060 super/RX 5700 xt.

So, Ryzen 5 3600 vs PS5 can only be decided with what your priorities are!
